weaving landscapes of shared becoming

An invitation to explore
Between Islands is a space for meeting what is moving — within ourselves, between one another, and beyond.
My work weaves together the arts, embodied knowing, and non-verbal dialogue, bringing these into spaces of learning, care, healing, and social change. At its heart is a commitment to collective resilience and a more connected, just, and compassionate society.
I believe that health and wellbeing are not only individual matters. They emerge through the interwoven relationships, communities, natural environments, and social landscapes that hold and shape us. Community = Immunity. Both words share the Latin root munus, carrying meanings of duty, gift, and offering. Community is both a gift and a shared responsibility, and perhaps our greatest resilience lies in our capacity to be in relationship.
This is an invitation to begin exploring within. I’m also curious about what becomes possible when different voices, knowledges, and ways of imagining come together through creative acts, and when we make room for new ways of being together to emerge and grow.
Life has many thresholds — moments when things are changing, shifting, ending or beginning, and familiar ways of moving through the world no longer feel quite fit.
This work is for anyone who could use a little more space, creativity and supportive companionship. You might be navigating a transition, feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, wondering where you belong, or simply sensing that something in you is asking for attention.
You don’t need any artistic experience to begin. Curiosity is enough.

What is Expressive Arts Therapy?
Expressive arts is a holistic, intermodal approach that places creativity at the heart of human experience. It brings together visual art, poetry, movement, sound, theatre, clay, storytelling and nature-based practices, offering different pathways to explore what words alone cannot always express.
It is not about “being good at art”. The focus is on your curiosity, presence, and the creative process itself — making space to connect with the body and soul, discover new perspectives, move with and through complex feelings, and encounter your own inner resources. The process is held with care and compassion within a thoughtfully crafted frame.
About Yi Jen
Walking through many thresholds in life, I have often found myself drawn to the bittersweet experiences and possibilities that emerge in the in-between spaces — places where grief and beauty, uncertainty and possibility, can co-exist.
Expressive arts has been a gift to me, offering me a different way of meeting life — one that does not always require having the answers. Through creativity, curiosity, and embodied ways of knowing, I am dedicated to creating space for what is emerging, honouring what is not there yet, and making room for the unique ways each person sees, experiences, and makes sense of the world.
“Do not now seek the answers […]. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
